LICKING

An eight-year-old boy takes three biscuits from a plate

His grandmother tells him to put two back –

‘One is quite enough!’

The boy shrugs amiably,

Picks up the two forbidden biscuits,

Licks each of them.

Then puts them back.

WAVING

A student teacher is giving out whiteboard pens.

He is determined to be firm from the word go and

The children get the colour they are given.

The tiniest girl says, ‘I want a red one’.

She gets the pen she is given – it is green.

The tiny girl scowls.

The student sits on the Teacher Chair and faces the children.

The children all sit nicely on the carpet with their pens.

Then the tiniest girl smiles the biggest smile and

Triumphantly waves two pens.

One of the pens is red.

DANGLING

They make time to play with the dog

Every evening after his walk -

Rope-tugging, ball throwing, play fighting.

Eventually it is time to stop.

The dog doesn’t want to stop but

The dog is not in charge.

He gives a disappointed woof,

Disappears upstairs and

They settle down in front of the TV.

After a while they notice that the dog

Is now standing at the threshold of the living room.

He fixes them with his silent victory stare.

A brand new sock dangles comically from his mouth.
